What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial roots made to support replacement teeth. The implant is produced from titanium which is fused with the bone to provide a durable anchor.

From a single replacement tooth to an entire jaw of teeth, dental implants can secure these in place. Implants can also be used to anchor dentures in position for challenging cases.

Implants can last several decades and are currently the method of choice for tooth replacement in many scenarios.

What will happen during treatment?

Like all treatment, to be successful, implants require careful assessment and planning. We will carry out a detailed consultation and then take accurate 3D scans of your teeth and bone to ensure that implants can be applied safely and predictably.

Treatment is divided into 2 stages:

1. After careful planning, the implant is gently inserted into the jaw. This is then left for a few months to heal and fuse with the bone. If bone volume is deficient this may require additional procedures to correct.

2. Often, just 2-3 visits are then required to construct the new teeth. In a complex case this may take longer; in all cases, we will discuss specifics with you at the planning stage.
